Review

A very good score by Alan Silvestri found its way to us via this promotional release. Even a double-CD release is available somewhere out there. Both releases consist of many short tracks, without descriptive titles.

The main theme is fairly good. Silvestri is known for his strong main themes, not for his incidental music, but this time he delivers in every respect. The main theme is very intimate music, highly appropriate for the movie. Best in this score, however, are some secondary themes and exquisite moments in the various short tracks, most notably in 14 (featuring a piano), 28, 29 (clarinet/flute), 42, 44, and 47 (piano). None of them, unfortunately, were really “developed” to something longer than one minute. There is also a nice solo piano piece (track 39). It ends so abruptly that I am stunned.

There is also a kind of action theme, which occurs in the tracks 7, 8, 20, and 41, of equal quality, and there are some dark, disharmonic passages (3, 9, 11, 12).
