Review
Neon Genesis Evangelion is a series of Japanese animated films. This is the first soundtrack of many. It consists of several styles: orchestral score music, Jazz, Country, Japanese pop songs, and mixtures thereof. Most tracks are fast and driving. The music is arranged in an accomplished way. Drum accompaniment, vocals, orchestral and synthesizer instruments are all very good. The compositions are interesting. They often sound rather menacing and, in particular the pop songs, very powerful. However, there is at least one nice and very light piece, track 20. Some tracks are rather disharmonic (3, 17, and 18), but most you can enjoy. Two tracks can only be called absolutely excellent (8 and 10).
I can recommend this score to anyone who liked the movie, and to soundtrack fans with a sense of unconventional, non-Hollywood scores.
From the series, although not included in this CD release, I can also recommend the songs “Soul Refrain - Tabris Remix”, “Movie I”, and especially “Movie II”.
