Review “Follow Your Dreams Vol. 2 - The Hans Zimmer Chronicles” is an unofficial promotional release that contains some rare, precious, and exceptional compositions by Hans Zimmer from various movies, mostly not available otherwise. “Two Deaths” is in Zimmer's own opinion his best composition ever, and I must agree that the tracks 5 and 6 are very gifted pieces of music, arranged for strings. They wouldn't have sounded out of place in the context of Zimmer's orchestral masterwork Fools Of Fortune. The militaristic “The General” from “Toys”, the groovy “Madame Pembroke's Gigolo”, “The Story Of O”, the opera-like “Dark Obsession” suite, and the new age instrumental “World Of Theory” from “Insignificance” are excellent examples for Zimmer's versatility and his ability to find original, fitting themes for practically any movie. The best part of this CD, however, is the music to “The Preacher's Wife”. The movie itself is quite bad. It could have been much better already if only Hans Zimmer's music had been placed as prominently as Whitney Houston's! This music was nominated for an Academy Award, and this was well justified. It is incredibly beautiful, rhythmical, driving, and very appropriate for the church/angel subject. The use of a choir is brilliant. I just cannot understand why the Halleluia song wasn't performed in the church (in the movie), while Whitney Houston's songs were. Only the sound quality of “The Preacher's Wife” on this CD leaves much to be desired, as it originates from a simple analog audio tape recording. “Video Killed The Radio Star”, finally, is no film music, but a well-known pop hit Hans Zimmer had with his band “The Buggles”. It also happened to be the first video ever shown on MTV. This compilation has many highlights and is worth buying for any Zimmer fan.
