Review

An extra-ordinary compilation, featuring much sought-after and really rare to find music. Actually I purchased this CD solely because of The Quiet Earth by John Charles. On video, I remember I kept repeating the end titles just to hear this music. This sweeping, dynamically played and uplifting main theme is one of the best I know. 11 minutes are only half of what is on the actual soundtrack, but probably constitute the most important parts. Apart from the main theme, there is one lovely other composition in the track “Zak Takes Over” and a fanfare theme in “Moving Up In The World”. Unfortunately, some futuristic sound effects are mixed with the music.

The sound quality is best in Quiet Earth. The excerpts from the other movies obviously are older recordings. Krull is one of James Horner's best scores to date. “Time Machine Waltz” is another outstanding piece by veteran film music composer Miklós Rózsa.
